On February 24, 2001, the then 25-year-old Ringo Deman disappeared. The young man had a permanent job as a bus driver at “De Lijn” in Ostend. After work, Ringo went for a drink with friends. Around 5 p.m. Ringo came home to his apartment, which he shared with a friend, on Mac Leodplein in Ostend. He was tired and went to sleep. An hour later his best friend Davy was at the door. According to the statements of the friend Davy, they went with his car to his apartment in the Roerdompstraat in Ostend to talk something out. According to Davy, Ringo would have left here on foot. He was angry and shouted that he would kill himself. This is the last trace of Ringo Deman. Ringo’s car and bicycle remain untouched, but his mobile phone was last active on Loppem’s mast.

Almost 20 years later, still no body has been found and the file was reread and analyzed by the Missing Persons Unit at the request of the public prosecutor of West Flanders. People from Ringo’s entourage were again questioned. It emerged that many people doubt the route of suicide and that the alleged suicide attempts at the time were just a call for attention. Ringo also had no family anymore, so no one stood up for him. His father had already passed away and his mother was very ill at the time and died shortly after his disappearance. Nevertheless, he had a very good relationship with his mother.

Ringo may have started a new life, committed suicide or been murdered. The investigators are calling out to people who knew Ringo well and who have not yet been heard by the police. People who know something but have never dared or been able to speak so far are asked to register.
