On Friday morning, April 5, 2019, 53-year-old Nico ROS cycled away from his home, located in the Krakeelhoek in Lievegem. Around 10 a.m. Nico was seen cycling by a witness near his home. Since then, every trace of him has been missing. That same day, April 5, Nico’s bicycle was spotted by a barge operator on the Ghent-Bruges canal, who immediately reported this to the police. The bicycle was located along the Legeweg in Beernem, between the canal and the towpath. This place is not easy to get to and the bike was almost undamaged. It could be that the bicycle has been left there. Extensive searches were conducted in and around the channel, unfortunately without results. The police take into account that Nico’s bicycle may have been in a different place and that someone took it and left it at the place in Beernem. The possible original location of the bicycle is very important to the researchers, because new searches can be set up from that location. The investigators therefore make a call to the person who moved the bicycle to report. It is a men’s bicycle, a sports model of the Thompson brand in gray-white color. The bike has a butterfly handlebar and 1 black bag at the back. There was also a bicycle computer on the handlebars, but it was no longer there when the bicycle was found. It is unclear what happened to that.
