During the flood disaster in 1953, the dikes in Zeeland burst, flooding large parts of the southwestern Netherlands. A total of 1,835 people drowned. It concerns 26 victims of the flood disaster. The bodies were found in 1953 and were buried in Serooskerke, Ouwerkerk and Nieuwerkerk. These persons were excavated on 10 and 11 September 2013 to take DNA to make a DNA profile that can be included in the Missing Persons DNA database.
