On June 10, 2003, a dismembered body was found in the colony area Östra Sommarstaden in eastern Malmö, Sweden. The macabre find was made when the new owner, a 40-year-old father of small children, was to fix the problem with the drain. He took a shovel and went out from behind the house to clear the stone well. Suddenly he bumps the shovel into something and discovers that it is a foot sticking out of a plastic bag. The plastic bags were buried at a depth of one meter where the drain went out. Shocked, he ran into a neighbor who helped him alert the police. The 40-year-old father of small children bought the colony cottage 25 days before the discovery. The seller of the cottage runs his own business in Malmö. He in turn built the cottage in 1994, but for the past three years he was almost never there but borrowed and rented it out to friends and relatives. Neither the current nor the previous owner is known to the police since before and they were not suspected of being involved in the murder. “The cottage was mismanaged for a long time”, says a neighbor. Östra Sommarstaden is basically uninhabited during the period November-April when the municipal water is shut off. During that period, the killer may have dug down the corps without much risk of discovery.
